Sod
Laying sod is a great way to get an instant lawn.
Our rolls are 10sq ft made of Kentucky Bluegrass
Here are a few tips to help you:
- If you are laying sod on an existing lawn, ensure all weeds and lawn has been removed. Sod will not grow on top of existing lawn. If the soil is hard and compacted, a roto-tiller may be required to loosen the soil.
- Sod should be laid in at least 4-6” of soil. We recommend using our Double Mix soil to add organic matter to the soil.
- The area should be raked, and large rocks and debris removed. Site grading is important to avoid excess water run off. Ensure the water will run away from your house.
- Start laying sod on the outer edges. Ensure all ends are pressed firmly together and do not overlap. Adjacent rows should be staggered so the ends don’t line up. Think of bricks on a house.
- Sod can be easily cut to fit anywhere. Use a sharp knife to avoid tearing.
- Cover exposed ends with loose soil to avoid the sod from drying out.
- Avoid walking on freshly laid sod for at least 10-14 days
Watering is very important. Watering everyday for the first few weeks may be needed. The best time to water is early mornings or late evenings.
Our sod has fertilizer already in it, and doesn’t need to be re-fertilized again until the fall time.
